Quick Summary

Warp Gate is the result of a class assignment to redesign and improve the classic Quake III map, DM17 (also known as The Longest Yard).  The goal of this project was to incorporate the fast paced and extremely mobile gameplay that the original became known for while adding additional flow and unique gameplay to provide a new and exciting twist to the classic map. Giant pistons lining both sides of the platform provide additional flow from the bottom floor to the very top, balancing the top level's bottleneck advantage and forcing a more circular flow.  Large space freighters periodically fly through the level, emphasizing the importance of map awareness and positioning.

Design Goals

  • Keep the pacing and feel provided in the original DM17 map
  • Enhance the player experience through unique gameplay and scripted events
  • Improve the flow of the map through new mechanics to alleviate bottlenecking and account for the new additions to the map

Level Features

Fly-by Sequence

A triggered scripted event warps a large freighter through the level, killing any unlucky player in its path before warping back into space.  Light Sequences timed with the arrival of the Space Freighters help warn players about the incoming fly-by run.

Piston Jump Tubes

Scripted jump pads that send players who enter it on the bottom floor out the back of the platform and up to the top level while picking up the shock rifle along the way.
